An Introduction

The Fountain Workshop Limited was formed in 1996 by Ian Kirkpatrick and David Bracey, who had worked together for the previous eleven years. We have developed a fresh and innovative approach to water feature design and construction by exploring the interfaces and interactions that can exist between aesthetics, design and engineering. We are not the only company specialising in the provision of water features in the built environment. However, in our view, we represent the only company that perceives the use and function of water features as social and environmental art forms.

The central concern of the company is excellence in both design and execution, achieved through active collaboration with clients and other specialists - from structural engineers through to specialist fabricators and cost consultants. A wide range of supporting skills underpins the work of the company, including in-house model making, CAD drawing and visualisation work.

We offer a range of services from initial design consultancy through to a full design and build service, often operating as the principal contractor on a scheme. This is supported by a comprehensive maintenance contract facility, offered by our sister company The Fountain Workshop (Maintenance) Limited.

Our staff have been drawn from many disciplines and backgrounds: engineering, fine art, landscape architecture, hydraulics and electronics, all with many years of experience in their particular areas of expertise. What unites us all is the inspiration we draw from the versatile medium of water, which enables a whole spectrum of rich qualities to be created through the fusion of art and engineering.
