Coventry City Centre

Coventry City Centre is brought to life by water, through the arching jets of the Upper Precinct and the spiralling water feature of the Bull Yard.

The Fountain Workshop has provided two water features for Coventry as part of the preparations of the Coventry City of Culture 2021 programme.

The first is a refurbishment of an existing water feature in the centre of Coventry’s shopping and eating district. The Upper Precinct has been redeveloped to include greenery and public seating, surrounding the existing Upper Precinct fountain, which has been returned to its former glory.

A short walk away is a new public realm development. The Bull Yard consists of the creation of a new water feature. This new feature makes use of a number of versatile individual jets, which can be ‘choreographed’ to froth close to the ground or to rise higher. The paving inlaid by … draws the public into the spiral of the water, not just allowing them to walk through the space but to really interact with the water feature and with Coventry.

Originally due to be opened in time for the start of 2021, the Coventry City of Culture project has been delayed due to the Coronavirus lockdown. As of July 2020, The Fountain Workshop and Coventry City of Council intend to open the Upper Precinct and Bull Yard water features in May 2021. Please see our News page for updates.

The Fountain Workshop is proud to be involved with our second City of Culture project in recent years. As part of the Hull City of Culture 2017 project, we provided water features for Queen Victoria Square and Trinity Square.
